Sauna Adventure with PTSS ry in Otaniemi

Last weekend, SAHTI ry members had the incredible opportunity to visit Aalto University’s campus in Otaniemi to experience something truly special – a floating barrel sauna operated by our friends at Polyteknillinen Sauna Seura (PTSS ry).

A Warm Collaboration

The trip marked our first official collaboration with another student sauna association, opening doors for knowledge exchange and shared experiences. PTSS ry, has made remarkable progress in promoting sauna culture at Aalto University, and their innovative floating sauna, Siipisauna, perfectly exemplifies their creative approach.

The Floating Experience

Imagine the gentle rocking of waves beneath you as the sauna stove crackles and steam rises – this is what made the experience truly unforgettable. The barrel sauna, built on a floating platform, combines traditional Finnish sauna design with an adventurous twist.

“There’s something magical about being surrounded by water while enjoying the heat of the sauna,” shared one of our members. “It adds a completely new dimension to the sauna experience.”

Learning from the Experts

Beyond the enjoyable sauna sessions, our visit was also educational. PTSS members shared valuable insights about their journey of establishing and maintaining student-run sauna facilities – knowledge that will be invaluable as we work toward our own sauna facilities in Lahti.

Looking Forward

This excursion was just the beginning of what we hope will be a lasting relationship between our associations. We’ve already started planning a return visit, where we’ll host PTSS members for a sauna experience in Lahti.

These collaborations not only enrich our understanding of sauna traditions but also create bonds between student communities across different universities.
